Delightful Book

This book is a delightful collection of 55 familiar english nursery rhymes re-worked for South African children. It weaves in many familiar South African words and images (depicting South Africa's diverse cultures,people,languages, animals, homes, way of life etc) with which the children of Southern Africa can identify.
( eg "Pussy cat pussy cat where did you go? I went to Madiba to say:'hello!'" :)
Beautifully illustrated and brilliantly adapted , this book is sure to be treasured by all children who love Africa, both those who have grown up there, and those curious or enchanted by the wonder of Africa.

I grew up as an expat in Southern Africa and purchased this book for my child who is adopted from South Africa.Both of us have loved it~ I for the memories it evokes and the familiarity of the images and words, and they for the humor and what it teaches them about their homeland. A special shared experience as we snuggle and laugh together and enjoy Africa in rhyme.

Two minor points to note..
1-a glossary is not included, which is a shame as I imagine it would be quite helpful for those not familiar with the South African words or pronunciation, however most words are in english and I would certainly not let that put you off purchasing this special book.
2- There is a couple of images of witch doctors included which may put some people off ..a big deal is not made of them but I did feel it worth a mention.

Overall I highly recommend this book!!

You'll Need

• 48 uncoated cake balls (please see separate recipe)
• 3 deep, microwave-safe plastic bowls
• 64 oz (1.8 kg) white candy coating
• 2 to 3 oz (55 to 85 g) pink candy coating
• 1 to 2 oz (30 to 55 g) chocolate candy coating
• 48 lollipop sticks
• Styrofoam block
• 16 oz (455 g) red candy coating
• Toothpicks
• 48 white Sixlets
• 48 pink confetti sprinkles
• 96 white candy-coated sunflower seeds
• Sanding sugar
• Black edible-ink pen
• Peach edible-ink pen

To Decorate

Have the cake balls chilled and in the refrigerator.

In one of the microwave-safe bowls, melt together 48 oz (1.4 kg) of the white candy coating with the pink and chocolate candy coating, following the instructions on the package. Add more or less of each color to achieve a darker or lighter shade for Santa’s face. The coating should be about 3 in (7.5 cm) deep for easier dipping.

When you are ready to dip, remove a few cake balls at a time from the refrigerator, keeping the rest chilled.

One at a time, dip about 1⁄2 in (12 mm) of the tip of a lollipop stick into the melted candy coating and insert the dipped end straight into a cake ball, pushing it no more than halfway through. Dip the cake pop into the melted coating. Gently lift the pop out of the coating and tap off any excess: Hold it over the bowl in your left hand, and tap your left wrist gently with your right hand. If you use the hand holding the cake pop to shake off excess coating, the force of the movement will be too strong and could cause the cake ball to loosen or fly off the lollipop stick. Tapping the wrist holding the cake pop absorbs some of the impact. The excess coating will fall off, but you will need to rotate the lollipop stick so the coating doesn’t build up on one side, making it too heavy on that side. If too much coating starts to build up at the base of the stick, simply use your finger to wipe it off, spinning the lollipop stick at the same time. This can happen if the coating is too thin or too hot. It’s not as hard as it sounds; it just takes a little practice. Stand the pop firmly in a hole in the Styrofoam block. Repeat with the remaining cake balls. Let dry.

Meanwhile, melt the red candy coating in a microwave-safe bowl. When dry, dip each pop in the red coating about one-third of the way up the sides, at a slight angle. Return to the Styrofoam block and let dry completely.

Melt the remaining white candy coating in another microwave-safe bowl. Using a toothpick, dot some of the melted white coating on one side of each cake pop in position for the ball of Santa’s hat, and attach a white Sixlet to each.

Using the toothpick, apply more white coating for each Santa’s beard. Place a pink confetti sprinkle for a mouth on each. Continue layering white coating on the pop for a nice full beard. Once it starts to set, it’s easy to continue adding layers. Let dry completely in the Styrofoam block.

Dot on more melted white coating above the confetti sprinkles and attach 2 white sunflower seeds to each in position for the mustache and let dry.

Apply more white coating at the base of the hat and sprinkle sanding sugar on top while the coating is still wet. (Sprinkle over a bowl so you can catch the sugar and reuse it.) Use some of the remaining tinted white coating to dot on a cute nose using a toothpick. Using the black edible-ink pen, draw eyes on the Santas. Draw cheeks with the peach edible-ink pen. Dab the cheeks so they look blended.

Return each Santa to the Styrofoam block as you finish. Let the cake pops dry completely.

Such a fun book!

I specifically requested this book for Christmas, having stumbled upon Bakerella's first Cake Pops book earlier in the year. Even though I'm not nearly talented enough to pull off most of her designs (which are fairly intricate and elaborate), the pictures definitely get the creative baking juices flowing! I've made several batches of basic cake balls since then, and all of them have been tremendous hits with my family (especially dark chocolate fudge cake with candy cane Hershey Kisses as a coating - seriously, try it!). At some point I'll attempt a few of the more simple designs in the book, but for now, I'm happy just being inspired.

Seriously CUTE!!!

I loved Bakerella's first book, but I think I love this one even more. I gasped with every turn of the page. The cake pop designs are so darling and original. Angie's instructions and tips make me feel like I can be a cake pop master just like her. Even if you never make a cake pop, Angie's creative use a sprinkles, color and design will have you re-imagining other crafts in your life from scrapbooking to cookie decorating.

If you love cake pops, baking, the holiday season, Bakerella, or just cuteness in general, you'll love this book! :)

terrific 2-part story

This is an excellent and satisfying conclusion to Mary and Rathe's love story. With an erotic, angst-filled plot line leading to their HEA. In fact, this has been the best story of Marion Tee because unlike her other books....SPOILER ALERT...the hero does NOT end up in bed with another women with the heroine forgiving him as it usually does in her other stories. The only true complaint I have about her books is the hero always ends up having sex with someone else before they find their happy ending. I understand that it makes for a more poignant reunion between the h/h but why does it have to be the plot in every story? Otherwise, I love Marion Tee's books and recommend them to anyone who enjoys "light" erotic stories.

Worth the wait

Another awesome read by Marian Tee!! Could not put it down loved every single moment!! From start to finish it will leave you on the edge of you bed!! Lol wonderful twist n turns to get the best ending ever. Rathe and Mary's story tops off the pussketeers series but I'm hoping Marian will give us a little after HEA for all these sexy men n their extraordinary women.

Yay! We finally have the second half of Rathe and Mary' story. I absolutely love it! Well I love all her books so it's no surprise.

We get to see about Rathe's parents and learn something about them which I might say I did not see coming. Another great twist to the story. Although how Rathe planned to her back, it was very different and I was right on my hunch when I suspected how Ms. Tee will end it. At the same time it's sweet and very hot. And loved the funny hot scenes.

Oh, and I'm glad that the evil person in part one got his just desserts. I was looking forward to that part.

We also get to see the other Pusketeers. I loved Saffi. And how she takes her pics and posts them on her twitter. Loved the caption. She never changed.

Thus, species meaningfully assess their environment, create ingenious solutions, and crucially, pass them on to subsequent generations. Using observable examples, BEEM builds up a strong case supporting these arguments.

Do we really need a new hypothesis on how evolution works? Ever since Charles Darwin proposed his theory of evolution by natural selection, the topic has attracted endless debates. Prior to Darwin's proposal of natural selection, Jean-Baptiste Lamarck had proposed his theory of evolution by inheritance of acquired characteristics, generally known as Lamarckism. But Darwinism later became the preferred mechanism to Lamarckism (although recent years have seen a surge of interest in improvised versions of the concept, known as neo-Lamarckism). The battle has now shifted to the evolution vs. creationism debate, with creationists often pushing their ideas under the guise of intelligent design.
 
While enough evidence has accumulated to demonstrate that the theory of evolution has been proven beyond sensible debate, the scope of action by natural selection in driving evolution is debatable. Human evolution, for example, has proceeded around 100 times faster in the last 10,000 years than it had ever before. How could that have happened when this is a period when natural selection's effect on us has actually reduced considerably? Proof for natural selection in action is also rare and mostly restricted to microbes.

Although the majority of evolutionary biologists accept automatically that natural selection satisfactorily explains evolution, a sizable minority of scientists (without any religious agenda) believe that the story is far from over. For example, scientists such as James A. Shapiro explains in his 2011 book that cells are packed with molecular mechanisms that help them actively restructure their genomes. Random mutations are fairly rare and almost always deteriorate what is already working well. Cells constantly and purposefully reorganize and engineer their genomes to suit specific needs. Shapiro calls this process 'natural genetic engineering'. The rapidly emerging field of epigenetics and systems biology are also moving molecular biology away from a gene-centric view of evolution.

What would stop a species from designing itself over time and driving its own evolution? Firstly, it has to be able to make informed decisions on how to modify itself. For example, pandas (the species as a whole) should be able to decide on the ideal position for a new thumb. Secondly, considering that it can, it has to be able to do two things. Communicate any such design parameters to the germ-line cells (the sperm and egg in animals) and based on these parameters, make any necessary modifications to the genome. Using many examples, BEEM demonstrates that every species is capable of performing all these actions.

Very,Very Important Work

I have an extensive scientific background and I can tell you that this is an incredibly important book. Essentially, the author brings together an increasing body of research that indicates that cells have the "intelligence" needed (probably through networks of chemical reactions that form the equivalent of neural networks) to direct their own evolution. So there is a good argument for "intelligent design" but not by a supernatural entity.
This insight, in my estimation, answers a lot of the unsolved dilemmas regarding the mechanism of evolution. Classic natural selection may be only a fine-tuning mechanism. I feel badly that nobody appears to be aware of this book and I am the first to review it. I have recommended it to some scientifically oriented friends and they have been very impressed.

Well written and very readable.

Ms. Smith writes very clearly. If you, like me, have some difficulty in reading Shakespeare and understanding the complexity of his language and imagery then this is a splendid book. It clarifies the issues, the times, Shakespeare's skill in dealing with the political power structure of the time.

So, for those who have not read Shakespearean plays in a long time, this book will help you a great deal. You may still read several pages of a play and then wonder what it was saying but Ms. Smith's work will enable you to feel a little less stupid and confused.

Her insights are great! Even if you don't agree with each and every one, they give you something fresh to think about. In the world of Shakespeare that can sometimes be difficult to find. I will watch for other publications Dr. Smith. The book arrived on time & in the condition promised. I will use this seller again.

Extremely useful. This book will have you thinking about Shakespeare in new ways. I particularly enjoyed the discussion of how different interpretations of The Taming of the Shrew change how we look at Kate and her role as a woman in her society.

About the Author

Rysa Walker is the author of the runaway hit Timebound, which was the 2013 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Grand Prize winner, its sequel Time’s Edge, and the novella Time’s Echo. Walker grew up on a cattle ranch in the South, where her entertainment options included talking to cows and reading books. An exciting adventure to the future of the past or the past of the future... or something? Anyway, READ IT ;)

I am a hypocrite.

I never buy anything on Amazon without reading the reviews, but when it comes time to pay the piper and add my own, I am LAZY. I sit back and wait for other people to talk.

But sometimes, a product is just so good (or so bad) I cannot resist. Get ready - this is a good one.

I am a mom. I am not a teenage girl. I do not use snapchat. I DO, however, love YA and NA lit. USUALLY, it's light. It's romantic. It's dramatic. It's forgettable.

Enter the Timebound series.

There is NOTHING forgettable about the story or the characters in this series. We have met Kate, Katherine, Kiernan, Connor and Trey, as well as a slew of bad guys in the various novels and novellas in the series (as well as their Amazon Worlds counterparts) but this is *IT* - the big one.

Will Saul win? Will Kate choose Trey or Kiernan? Will Katherine see the end of the war, or the world?

Most every question I had was answered, but more importantly, it was done in a way I never expected. The story twisted and turned, and I never felt that anything was predictable. In fact, Kate's letter (you'll understand when you read this book, because you REALLY should) was possibly my favorite part for just that reason.

I don't write reviews, but I am writing this one because when you find something worth sharing, you need to share. I want YOU to experience this amazing series, and this stunning finale too.... so do it ;)

After the conclusion of “Time’s Edge”, Kate now has allies in her plan to stop Saul’s nefarious plot to cull the majority of humanity, leaving only those whom he deems truly faithful to his Cyrist religion alive. Led by Julia Waters, this small compartmentalized crew is only one part of the larger resistance called The Fifth Column. These allies are in a prime position to help Kate in her fight against Saul, as they are a faction hidden inside the Cyrist hierarchy. But are their goals completely aligned with Kate’s or do they have some hidden agendas that could derail her plans? In the meantime, Kate knows The Culling is coming very soon and once they learn the date it will occur, the countdown is on! The odds are against them and the situation is grim as they all try to stop Saul from implementing his terrorist plan.

Also, stalwart ally Kiernan is acting very strangely lately, more withdrawn and less like himself than usual. Continuing to act as a double agent within the Cyrist ranks, what secrets might he be withholding from Kate? Could they mean he is ultimately untrustworthy and unreliable when Kate needs him most, in this final battle against Saul?

The story barely takes time to breathe as it moves at a breakneck pace from beginning to end as we time travel from one era to another. In between the action, as there is plenty, we get many wonderful character scenes, from Kate to Kiernan, to Kate’s boyfriend Trey and Kate’s best friend Charlayne and everyone in-between. By now, having spent much time with them in all of their books and short stories, we know them backward and forwards like old friends, right down to their quirks. Who they are, what they believe and how they respond to each obstacle they struggle to overcome are all consistent with their beliefs and are quite enjoyable to spend time with. (Except for the bad guys, who are NOT enjoyable to spend time with but are definitely well-rounded characters).

From Kate making a trip to London to ferret out whether Houdini was using a Chronos medallion in his magic act to meeting Victoria Woodhull, a leader in the woman’s suffrage movement in the late-1870’s, the historical research was spot on, integrated well into the story and only enhanced the narrative. Along these wild time travel journeys, Kate forms some unusual alliances, there are some really unexpected, jaw-dropping plot twists that I never saw coming and some beautiful character moments that were truly wonderful to read. And for the first time, Kate even visits the future in the year 2308 to retrieve something vitally important to their plan to stop The Culling. All of these character and story threads are woven effortlessly into the story, coalescing into a heart-stopping and heart-breaking finale. Everyone gets time to shine and all plot threads are tied up. But since the stakes are so high, we truly wonder: will everyone survive to the finale and live happily ever after? Especially Kate, who might be called upon to make the biggest sacrifice of all?

With a high-octane book like this one where the time travel is fast and furious, you might wonder whether it goes off the rails, as time travel can be a tricky subject to write about without contradicting things. Wonder no more, as the author impressively handles this complicated aspect of the story very smoothly, making it easy to understand and a joy to read with each time jump the characters take. I also really enjoyed the science fiction/pop culture references. There are many references that subtly reference Harry Potter, the “V” television miniseries, Star Wars and Star Trek in the story so fluently without drawing attention to itself and yet, serve the narrative whether you know the reference or not. In particular, the Harry Potter reference that Trey makes in chapter four was both funny and clever.

Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how well the story picks up from threads from her novella “Time’s Mirror”. It’s an entertaining story in its own right that stands on its own. You could read “Time’s Divide” without having read the novella before doing so, but it is a much deeper, more enhanced experience if you read the novella first.

“Time’s Divide” is an outstanding conclusion to the Chronos Files trilogy that tells its story on a wide and sophisticated canvas spanning many eras. It wraps you in its grip and moves at such a demanding pace, it doesn’t let you pause until the end, making the book extremely hard to put down until you reach the highly satisfying conclusion. =)

conclusion to The Chronos Files is extremely satisfying!!!!

I won this ebook during a giveaway, but had read both previous novels and the two novellas already. I could not see how Ms. Walker was going to be able to end this series and keep her readers happy. It just did not seem possible to achieve this and not upset half of her readers no matter how she concluded the series. But I must say, she followed a complex, yet somehow easy to follow plot and in my opinion was able to give the book a much different ending (in a good way!) then I ever saw coming. There didn't seem to be any fluff or filler in the book, and she kept me up extremely late reading the book, as I simply could not put it down! I am so happy to know that even though Rysa Walker has stated this is the end of the series for her, that the books are in the kindle world, and some other authors have already picked up the gauntlet and continued on with what I hope are the characters we have all come to know and love! This gives me great comfort, because if other readers are anything like me, I will not be pining away wondering what other adventures my friends might have gotten into, because their life and world will live on through other writers!

I think she is an extremely remarkable writer I cannot wait to see where her other works will lead us. I just don't see how anyone can go wrong by picking this book up. It is worth every penny.
